YA Character Naughty List

Monday 11 December 2017

This list actually came out of another project I'm working on (all to be revealed in the New Year) but I was trying to come up with booky Christmas ideas that were a bit more unusual and I thought a character naughty and nice list would be a lot of fun, you'll get the nice list tomorrow so make sure you come back for that.

Who do you think will be on the list? Read more to find out!

Sebastian Morgenstern - The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare
If you have read TMI or TDA (he's named dropped a lot in that series too) then you'll know that Sebastian and daddy Valentine are two of the big bads. I've included Sebastian on the list because while Valentine was evil, it was Sebastian who really drove the murder and destruction home. He isn't even getting coal in his stocking.

Malcolm Fade - The Dark Artifices series by Cassandra Clare
I really like that when I said how much I loved Malcolm when I started reading Lady Midnight that no one laughed at me, so I am sorry if you're late to the party and haven't started this series yet. I won't say what he does just in case you haven't read TDA books yet, BUT I will say he's British in an American setting so it should have been obvious that he was being naughty. No presents for you.

Father John from After The Fire by Will Hill
I don't know how many people have read this book, it's all the rage on my Twitter timeline thanks to a certain blogger, but Father John really is a piece of work. He's the leader of a religious cult where he constantly manipulates people and abuses the trust that his followers put in him. He's a really disgusting human being so Santa won't be visiting him this year or next year either.

Doleres Umbridge from the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
Notice that Umbridge made the list and Voldemort didn't... Voldemort was undeniably evil but it's Umbridge that I've always hated. She's unnecessarily wicked. She claims to be following Cornelius Fudge and doing his bidding, but Fudge was some pompous political figure at best, he wasn't malicious in the way Umbridge was. No Christmas joy for the villain who is more unlikeable than the Dark Lord himself.

Gale from the Hunger Games series
I did originally have President Snow written down, but I think he was the obvious choice. He was a well established villain in the series and he never pretended to be anything else. Gale, the righteous git, thought he was being a hero when he sided with President Coin to bomb innocent people in a foolish an act of war, really he was just being stupid because the girl he likes, likes someone else. No presents for you either.

Henry de Warlencourt from S.T.A.G.S. by M.A. Bennett
This isn't technically a spoiler because I checked the blurb and it does hint that not everything is what it seems with the Medievals. Henry is charming, well spoken and so posh it hurts. So of course he's evil. He thinks anyone less than him is a threat to his privileged way of life and he takes it upon himself to cleanse the world of these lesser mortals. Also naughty and he would enjoy coal as it would help light one of his many fireplaces.

Mrs Coulter from His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman
I've been on a total Philip Pullman kick in anticipation for getting Book Of Dust for Christmas, so I've been reliving the work of Mrs Coulter and her odd decision that people didn't need their Daemons and should be brutally separated from them. I always wished I could have a Daemon, but in our world terms, just think of it like someone tried to separate you and your pet but x100, not going to happen. She is permanently on the naughty list.

And those are the Characters I have placed on the naughty list, who would you include? Let me know in the comments and I'll see you tomorrow with my list of nice characters <3

  1. The only one from this list I've heard of is Umbridge, and she really is evil! I loathe her. I do have His Dark Materials on my TBR though.
