Ice Cream Tag

I was tagged by the lovely Charlotte from Charlotte Somewhere to do a new tag called the Ice Lolly Book Tag. The idea came from the Charlotte, Amy from Golden Books Girl and Louise from Book Murmuration. I thought this was a really unique sounding tag and it gives you a chance to talk about a lot of different books. 

I'll be tagging four lovely bloggers at the end but if anyone wants to do this tag then take note of the questions (ice lollies) and let me know what books you would pick! 

Up first is the menu drawn by Charlotte not myself, each ice lolly/ice cream relates to a different question in the tag. 

1. Mini Milk - Short but Sweet - Unboxed by Non Pratt, which I reviewed not that long ago. This book made me cry so much and it's only a little book. Lots of emotion in 140 pages. 

2. Magnum - Best Classic - I've talked about this a lot in tags and on my twitter, but my favourite classic is The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, definitely read it at some point in your life. 

3. Cornetto - Hidden Surprise at the End - Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. I still didn't particularly like this book in the end (mainly a character thing) but I won't pretend that I guessed what was going on, at least until the last minute, so it has that going for it! 

4. Rocket Lolly - More Exciting from the Outside - Orbiting Jupiter by Michael D. Schmidt A book I reviewed just on Saturday. I thought this book looked and sounded amazing from the cover and blurb but it really just didn't deliver the way I thought it would. 

5. Ben and Jerry’s - Most Versatile Author - This may be an obvious choice, but David Mitchell, particularly relating to Cloud Atlas. If you're looking for versatile and can't be bothered to read every piece of work an author has done, Cloud Atlas has a little bit of everything. 

6. FAB - Weak ending - I think I've already called this series out before, but I feel very strong about the ending to the Divergent trilogy by Veronica Roth. Allegiant just didn't pack the same punch as the first two books and had a lacklustre ending.

7. Calippo - Work Hard to Get the Good Stuff Out - Broken Branches by M. Jonathon Lee was one of the first books I was sent by a publisher, it took me ages to get past the first few chapters but it ended up being an excellent thriller.

8. Rainbow Lollies - Favourite LGBTQIA Read - Simon Vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli, this is an amazing book and the narrator Simon is one of my favourites of all time, he's sarcastic and hilarious. 

9. Nobbly Bobbly - Gritty Subject, Sweet Message - I'll say The Fault In Our Stars for this as cancer is probably the grittiest subject I personally have read about. The message being making the most of your time and allowing yourself to be loved.  

10. Boss Strawberry Double - Best book by an international author - Best book off the top of my head by an author who doesn't live in the UK is Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu, which you should definitely check out, it's about feminism and is a really important read for girls everywhere. 

11. Magnum Ice Cream - Weird but Good - Kafka One The Shore by  Haruki Murakami. This was recommended to me by a guy in my screen writing class, I called it out for being weird when he was explaining it but as promised, I did really enjoy the strange characters. The old man talks to cats, but not street cats because they don't understand. Makes sense right? 

12. Crunchie Blast - Best Spinoff/Retelling - Pride, Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahame Smith. I love the original, obviously, but I can admit that the edition of zombies is really genius if you're into that sort of thing.  

13. Solero - Light and fluffy - I'm a big fan of the Bridget Jones' Diary books by Helen Fielding, though we do not speak of the events in Mad About The Boy. Bridget has her ups and downs but the books are lighthearted for the most part, I relate to her far too much 

14. Choc ice - A book you don’t want to admit you love - Since the movies I'm sometimes skeptical as whether or not to admit this, but I did like the first Twilight book - made worse that I was inspired by the movies to read the book, rather than the other way around.  

15. Fruit Lolly - Left on the Shelf - After You by JoJo Moyes. I got caught up in the hype of Me Before You and was completely devastated by it that I haven't been able to pick up any of JoJo's other books. I don't trust her to not make me feel things. It's a love/hate relationship, we'll see who loses. 

16. Mint Choc Chip - A book you either love or hate - Harry Potter and The Cursed Child has divided the Potter fandom in a way I never thought possible. I personally love this book, there's things I don't like about it (baiting us with Scorbus) but I mostly love it because Scorpius is pure gold. It's definitely more along the lines of fan-fiction but it's also basically canon so I'm happy <3.
