Last Wednesday I got my second Illumicrate. After a few issues with the February box I was eager to get this box because everyone always raves about how good these boxes are, I needed to restore my faith. And I definitely did.
My first impression when the box arrived was excitement because the packaging was bulging, there was so much stuff in there that the tape holding the box closed was under strain. This was especially positive as I had been missing items out of the February box so I was quietly confident that this box would be okay. So Lets take a look at the contents.
Just look at all those goodies! Two books like last quarters box, a key ring, a mug, a candle, some post cards, art cards, a poster and two book marks! If you don't know, an Illumicrate subscription costs £30 but if it's your first subscription you'll be able to get a 10% discount code if you find one of the Illumicrate reps and Daphne (the owner of Illumicrate) runs offers quite often for things like milestones, so it's not too expensive at all.
Up first is a signed copy of Truth or Dare by Non Pratt. This book was just released last week so I'm really excited to add it to my TBR pile. Here is the description for anyone who might be interested; How far is too far when it comes to the people you love? Claire Casey hates being the centre of attention. But if it means getting Sef Malik to notice her, it's a risk she's happy to take. Sef is prepared to do anything to help his recently disabled brother. But this means putting Claire's love - and life - on the line. Because when you're willing to risk everything, what is left to lose?
The next item on the packing list is a Feyre mug which I understand is a character from Sarah J Maas' A Court of Thorns and Roses series, but as I have not read those books (don't hate me) then I can't say much more than the artwork on this item is really beautiful and is by an artist called Merwild whose work you can find Redbubble fans of ACOTAR, Six of Crows and Final Fantasy will have a great time over there.
Next is the Mermaid Lagoon Candle by Flickerink. This. Candle. Smells. AMAZING. It's tropical, zesty goodness and I almost don't want to burn it because I know it's an exclusive candle so once it's gone it's gone. Flickerink have an Etsy shop with some adorable looking candles and I already have my eye on the Frog Prince one. Also in the photo below is a badge for Juno Dawson's book; The Gender Games. I've heard such good things about this book and I'm even more motivated to make it to her book event in Newcastle.
My favourite item is next. The Swish and Flick keyring from Nutmeg and Arlo that comes in an exclusive colour. So if you really like this item you will be able to get it on their Etsy store it just unfortunately won't be in this gorgeous blue. I'm Harry Potter obsessed for those of you who didn't know so any type of Potter merchandise is going to go a long way with me! Inside the little pink envelope was a discount code for their online store too, so good bye money.
If Harry Potter themed merchandise wasn't enough, the Illumicrate box also came with two Beauty and the Beast themed items! BATB is my favourite Disney film of all time (and the remake is amazing too) so this was a really nice surprise. I'm going to frame the art card and the door hanger is going somewhere safe because I don't trust hanging it on a door in my house, it'll not last five minutes. These were designed by TJ Lubrano whose art work you can find on Etsy.
The last item on the packing list is this adorable bookmark made from a map. This item is by Penguin Co, I haven't found where you can buy something like this online but this item in particular is an exclusive so that may be why. It's really pretty though and as you can see in the photo it is designed to look pretty on the corner of your books.
We're not done! Illumicrate always include extras alongside their six main items, one of which we already covered, the Juno Dawson badge. Also in the extras section are Taste of Blue Light post cards that feture some really great quotes and art work, so even if you don't understand the references you can appreciate the beauty.
And the final item is an ARC of The Waking Land, which came with a bookmark and a letter from author Callie Bates. The description is; It's been fourteen years since King Antoine took Elanna hostage. Fourteen years since her father's rebellion failed. Fourteen years spent being raised by the man who condemned her people to misery. Now twenty, Elanna is about to be taken prisoner once again... but this time by her father. He wants to reignite his rebellion, this time using Elanna as a figurehead. He will tell his followers she is the legendary Wildegarde reborn, a sorceress who could make the very earth tremble. ut what no one knows is that magic really does flow through Elanna's veins. Now she must decide which side she's on, and whether she'll use her powers for mercy... or revenge. It's been a while since I read a fantasy novel so I'm looking forward to giving this a shot <3.
