Weirdly enough this book falls into a niche of thrillers that I've really been enjoying the last couple of years. Though I'm not a mum, the idea of a book revolving around the abduction of a child is really chilling, I reviewed a similar book called Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell earlier this year, and if it wasn't for that book I might not have jumped on this one. 

As this is a debut I didn't know what to expect from Caves but I honestly enjoyed this book every bit as much as I enjoyed the work of similar authors in the genre. It's tense and eerie and for anyone else out there who isn't a parent, you'll still empathise with the characters and feel their pain because I certainly did. 

Francine copes with the loss of her daughter by turning to alcoholism, which is probably the more obvious reaction to loss and yet it's the it's the one I haven't read about, and her husband puts his energy into making the whole thing an industry. As it was the sort of reaction I expected from a grieving parent, it didn't make me think less of her at all. Receiving a letter that suggests her daughter is alive throws Francine off track and she has to to decide if this is real or a cruel hoax that needs to be ignored. 

I read this book in one sitting, it isn't too daunting of a read at just under three hundred pages, so I urge you to pick this one up. I would recommend this book to any fans of modern thrillers, particularly those of you who have read the work of Lisa Jewell and Karen Slaughter as S.B. Caves' work as this book felt similar to their work in the best of ways. 

Caves is a very talented writer to be able to take on such a harrowing topic and pull it off with furness. I can't wait for what comes next from this author! Thank you to Canelo for letting me be a part of this blog tour!
