What I really liked about this book is that you start off feeling afraid of Jack. As the back of the book suggests; Jack and Grace are living the perfect lie. From the first chapters we learn that Grace isn't happy in her marriage and Jack is the reason behind that. She fall hard and fast for the perfection that was Jack Angel and agreed to marry him after only six months. Not 24 hours into married life, Grace knows she's made the biggest mistake of her life.

It's not all about Grace though, it's her sister, Millie, that Jack wants and it's Millie that Grace has to protect. Escape attempt after escape attempt leaves Grace with little to no home comforts within her own home and as further punishment, she's kept away from Millie who Jack believes to be oblivious to the goings on behind closed doors.
Millie may not be as oblivious as he thinks. Despite having Down's Syndrome, Millie is incredibly bright and intuitive. She's also Grace's only confidant throughout the majority of her ordeal. The two of them have a wonderful, sisterly connection that will rival others. Their relationship is so pure that it only makes their predicament all the more heartbreaking. Grace puts up with Jack's torture in the hope that she'll be able to do something smart before Millie is due to move in with them.
Jack is a very clever man and is always a step ahead of Grace, or is he? What happens when you live with a psychopath for so long? You might start to pick up a few things.
There are times in the book that you'll feel frustrated, with an opportunity for escape on almost every page, you'll be left wondering why Grace doesn't just make a run for it. As the book you'll come to appreciate just how far Jack has gone to make sure his back is covered.Without wanting to spoil what happens, I'll just say that the ending made me very emotional and my opinion is that you will not be left disappointed by the end of this book.
I would recommend this book to anyone is a fan of modern thrillers and I will warn you that some themes in the book are particularly upsetting. B. A. Paris has a second novel coming out February 9th in the UK, available for preorder now.
